Heads up Brooklynites! We just shipped a bunch of new knit hats and scarves over to the lovely little shop Brooklyn Collective. That means more warmth for your head and neck! Styles to be found include a one-off Baby Bedford Tube Scarf (similar to the original Bedford only smaller), a Havemeyer Poncho Scarf in Black, and a new Graham Knit Hat which we are going to also offer at the Craft Fair coming up. Only one or two of each style so better move quickly!

We love how detailed Aya Rosen gets in describing our clothes and the photos by Ned Rosen perfectly capture the details of individual pieces. We couldn't have done it better ourselves! "Both Samurai and Astronaut outfits are uniforms, and as such, utilitarian. The collection’s main visual theme was its use of utilitarian details such as zippers, riveting, buckles, cargo pockets, snaps, and eyelets in original and unexpected decorative ways. Ms. Bang’s chosen colors for this collection were narrow, focusing on mushroom, taupe and black with a couple of items in purple and copper leather. It ranged from natural soft materials such as jersey, bamboo mesh, distressed copper leather, and silk. To harsh digitally printed jersey, which the designer named “Plasma,” and to stone washed nylons. Some of the collection’s standouts were; a double lined mushroom colored jacket with zippers all around the lapels, which changed shape and colors when the zipper was pulled up or down. A modern and elegant black jersey dress with a cross shape back in sheer black mesh. And a long sleeve nude jersey dress with surprising cargo pockets and buckled straps along the sleeves."

The Making of A Bust

When it comes to putting together a lookbook, we are always looking for new, fun, and innovative ways to present our designs. For the Knit Warmth 2010 collection, we thought it would be great to make our own form for the scarves and hats to be presented on. What followed that idea was madness.

Here are some behind-the-scenes photos of the process...

We decided to build the base of the bust with cardboard. We used the dressform as a template. Here, Sunghee is cutting cardboard to fit the shape of the form. (You can see the snow outside!)

After a bunch of papercuts and sticky fingers, this was the result. Not bad!

Here it is with a couple coats of paint. We liked the texture and roughness of it.

You would think after numerous hours spent making the first one, we would have had enough...

We ended up making two more.

In the end, we opted to use the smoother bust with the elongated neck for the photoshoot. And because we had hats, we made a detachable head as well.

The final product came out great. The light and shadow cast from the form helped to bring out the texture and knit details of the collection.

We the People

Last Thursday, we got out of the studio for a few hours to attend the opening of new Lower East Side boutique We the People. We love that Vera Ng, the store's owner, opened up the shop as a home for new, emerging designers, but what gets us even more excited is that our goods will be available there come Fall! We the People will carry small runs of practically the entire Fall Winter collection, including all of the Knit Warmth scarves and hats. We will keep you updated on the release date.

In the meantime, head over to 156 Stanton St. to check out the beautiful summer items. Our favorites include the one-off James Yoest pieces and the body jewelry of Kallisti.

We have one more retail solution for all of you. We've decided to add a few select pieces from our upcoming Fall Winter 2010 accessory line, Knit Warmth, to the mix. Two of our beautiful handknit hats and three of our tube scarves (including one in leather... WHAT!) are now available for purchase on Etsy. Yeah yeah it's a bit hot right now to be thinking about anything in 100% wool, but if you plan on trekking to the bottom half of the globe for a little vacay time, you know you'll be set. Included in the bunch are:

The Devoe Knit Hat, color Midnight Brown, made from 100% merino wool yarns

The Olive Knit Scarf, color Midnight Brown, made from 100% merino wool yarns

The Bushwick Scarf, color Bronze, made from 100% leather. This scarf is pretty insane. The leather "yarn" is all cut and knit by hand. Pretty sure you won't see anyone else with anything like it...

All pieces are made in New York. Pieces are limited for the time being. The full 12 pieces Knit Warmth collection will be available in August.

It's not too early to start thinking about Fall

We recently just finished our Fall Winter 2010 collection and we are super excited about it. Chock full of leather and lightweight wools and drapy jerseys, the collection is sleek! Here are some great photos from the shoot we had 2 weeks ago. Thanks to Lisa Maria our model, Lee Morgan our photograher, and Monique Albritton our makeup artist.

Clothes Growing in Brooklyn

Dear Potential Interns!

We are a growing company needing some extra help. We are looking for two interns or possibly more to help us in the design and marketing aspect of the company. We are not a company looking for interns to get coffee or to walk the dogs, but looking to find ones that are creative and like to learn a lot about the behind the scenes of a growing company.
