Heads up Brooklynites! We just shipped a bunch of new knit hats and scarves over to the lovely little shop Brooklyn Collective. That means more warmth for your head and neck! Styles to be found include a one-off Baby Bedford Tube Scarf (similar to the original Bedford only smaller), a Havemeyer Poncho Scarf in Black, and a new Graham Knit Hat which we are going to also offer at the Craft Fair coming up. Only one or two of each style so better move quickly!
Also, just realized Brooklyn Collective posted a fun video from the opening party a couples months ago. Watch to get a feel for the space and some of the other artists/designers carried in the store.

Schema Mag
Canadian based Schema Magazine's lovely little writeup for our Fall 2010 collection:
"Sunghee Bang dresses women who like androgyny and minimalism. Her 2010 Fall/Winter Collection includes reworked pants and shorts with zipper details in black, gray and copper. This tough-girl chic aesthetic is in the same vein as the "cool kids": Helmut Lang, Alexander Wang and Rick Owens. However, Bang's knitwear really sets her apart from other designers. Her masterful work in weaving together stylish scarves, hats and sweaters soften the collection and are must have items for this season.
Originally from Seoul, Korea, Bang is now based in New York. Her East Williamsburg, Brooklyn factory serves as an inspiration for her collection, resulting in this overall austere look. Women who wear her clothes may feel ready to take on a post-apocalyptic world and fight evil."

modaCycle
The writeup and photos about our Spring 2011 Collection posted by modaCycle is one of the best we've seen so far! We love how detailed Aya Rosen gets in describing our clothes and the photos by Ned Rosen perfectly capture the details of individual pieces. We couldn't have done it better ourselves! Thanks to modaCycle for their support!
"Both Samurai and Astronaut outfits are uniforms, and as such, utilitarian. The collection’s main visual theme was its use of utilitarian details such as zippers, riveting, buckles, cargo pockets, snaps, and eyelets in original and unexpected decorative ways. Ms. Bang’s chosen colors for this collection were narrow, focusing on mushroom, taupe and black with a couple of items in purple and copper leather. It ranged from natural soft materials such as jersey, bamboo mesh, distressed copper leather, and silk. To harsh digitally printed jersey, which the designer named “Plasma,” and to stone washed nylons. Some of the collection’s standouts were; a double lined mushroom colored jacket with zippers all around the lapels, which changed shape and colors when the zipper was pulled up or down. A modern and elegant black jersey dress with a cross shape back in sheer black mesh. And a long sleeve nude jersey dress with surprising cargo pockets and buckled straps along the sleeves."

lowefactor
Fashion and lifestyle blog lowefactor has filed us in as "Brands we Lust". How fabulous! Thanks to Jared for the coverage!
"In case you didn’t know, we love new designers. Enter Korean born, Brooklyn based Sunghee Bang. After winning top prizes at FIT for Art and Knitwear and stints at McQueen (her prints were shown in the S/S 2009 collection), Bang debuted her first collection for S/S 2010 and was immediately picked up by EVA. Drawing inspiration from Astronauts and Samurais, Bang’s S/S 2011 is a tour de force. From her gray and white plasma print racerback tanks to her other worldly metallic hard detailed belts and zippers (we’re a stickler for detail), Bang combines classic tailoring with harsh imagery... Bang’s signature patternmaking and knitting is a revelation. Hence why we file her under “brands we lust”..."

theMAGAZINE(ok) - Spring 2011 Review
Lots of love from theMAGAZINE(ok)'s October 2010 Fashion Week Issue!
"Cool new designer carried by We the People on Stanton. A tightly edited capsule line that takes basics and skews them toward classics. Sunghee featured an exclusive print for dresses and a stellar pencil skirt- I was the v-necked dress with ruching so badly! Also the grey jacket with zipout black panels on the front. Another standout being the khaki jodphur style pants with zip pockets at the hip."
Peruse theMAGAZINE(ok) Fashion Week Issue - October 2010.
Pages worthy of note: 120-123 (Spring review and images), 17 (invitation), and 22 (model Kelly wearing one of our Spring looks).

Behind the Scenes
On this dreary Tuesday, for your viewing pleasure, here are some behind the scenes photos from our Spring 2011 presentation:
We the People storefront where we displayed the samurai and astronaut costume. We had a lot of passerbys stop to inquire about the costumes, especially the samurai one.
L to R: Chloe is dressed in the Striped Web Tee, Space Legging, and Saddle Belt. Jessica is wearing the Plasma Tank, Double Zip Pant, and Armor Belt.
Sahira in the Black Hole Dress.
Brittany in the Slant Cowl Jacket, Cross Back Tank in Black, and the Plasma Legging.
Ann in the Cross Back Column Dress.
Aquila in the Hannibal Blazer, Box Tee, and Plasma Tube Skirt.
Everyone! We shot the majority of our lookbook outside of the middle school on the corner of Stanton and Suffolk. The walls had such great color and texture that fit perfectly with our inspiration.
---
Now that the big Spring presentation is over, we've been concentrating on getting the rest of our Fall stuff out to stores. In the next few weeks, you'll be able to find our ready-to-wear and knits at Barneys (New York), Oak (New York), EVA (New York), and Minnie T's (Los Angeles). We'll be sure to give the heads up once they hit stores and let you know exactly which pieces you'll find where.

Runway Passport
"It's time to put away the sundresses, rompers, and flip flops. Forget the fall equinox - With Labor Day already in the past, there's no more denying that fall has arrived here in New York City. I stopped by We the People recently and checked out their new Fall Line. For a tough yet playful addition to your booties, check out the feather or fringe spats ($78) by Key by Khoi Le. If you're looking for a unique and luxurious accessory, you might like Sunghee Bang's woven bronze and brown leather snood ($500). Also available now is 0++0's new collection of beautifully draped silk pieces by Stephanie Otto. Other new brands available at We the People Collective: Bedford Street Laundry, N:F:P, Inima, and Chelsea Sutrisno." - Alice Chin

Zink Magazine
Zink Magazine coverage of our Spring Presentation:
"When your collection is a mash-up between astronauts and samurai’s, prepare to get people talking. Designer Sunghee Bang’s Spring 2011 collection fuses her love of Eastern tradition and construction with her love for design. Precise details, present throughout each piece, were a vital and evident element to the tune of zippers and hardware. Many of the pieces from the Brooklyn based brand showcased dual-functionality, keeping strong silhouettes in the overall theme. The Spring Collection was a mix of somber colors, such as the “Slant Cowl Jacket” in a covetable nude jersey. Texture was especially employed in an interesting black dress made from sheer black web — clearly not for the tamest of hearts. Sunghee Bang creates garments for the creator. — Nieci Thomas"
